Scott's Year in Shirts #151 - Softball Fever

Softball Fever is a lot like Herpes, It's easy to catch and once you have it, there's no cure. This is a great shirt to wear when hanging out with your softball buddies at a pool party or just kicking it with your boo. I can't believe I just said kicking it with your boo.

Scott's Year In Shirts #150 - "FOTC"

After spending Friday and Saturday night in Las Vegas, dork weekend was completed Sunday night back at the Hollywood Bowl for one more Flight of the Conchords show. Now I'm sitting in a stacked parking lot just waiting to go home!

Scott's Year In Shirts #149 - "Ford"

This trip to the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign is brought to you by your neighborhood Ford dealer and some random Hispanic chick celebrating her Quinceanera.

Scott's Year in Shirts #148 - "Las Vegas"

Greetings from historic Las Vegas, where dreams come to die and frat boys come to party. Today I'm wearing a vintage 80's era Las Vegas t-shirt with Miami Vice style font. Sorry about Whoopi, I tried to get her to look at the camera but she was being difficult.

Scott's Year in Shirts #147 - "Sista 2 Sista"

I couldn't be any less qualified to wear this shirt. I'm not a sista. I don't even have a sister. But I know people that have sisters, and I know some sistas. And I've seen the Chris Rock documentary "Good Hair," so I know what happens when they get together in a social setting. They get they hair did, and they gossip on. And apparently, they wear self-empowerment t-shirts with butterflies that tell the world how much they love life.

Scott's Year in Shirts #146 - "Heavy Metal"

When it comes to real heavy metals, I'm pretty much out of my element. Hell, I failed 11th grade Chemistry. But when it comes to French Dip sandwiches in Los Angeles, I'm pretty well-versed. There's Phillipe's in Koreatown and Cole's downtown. The competition pretty much stops there. This photo was taken before I ate a full-size dip, sweet potato fries and a slice of bourbon pecan pie with ice cream. Afterwards, the elements on my shirt looked slightly larger.

Scott's Year in Shirts #145 - "Some cats and a piano"

Sometimes things just slip your mind. Maybe you forgot to feed your dog or take the trash out, or maybe you forgot to post your t-shirt blog for the day. These things happen. Maybe you went to play a softball doubleheader, hit the bar after the game and before you knew it midnight rolled around. These things happen. Anyway, here's a t-shirt with some cats playing piano on a moonlit night. Your guess is as good as mine.

Scott's Year in Shirts #144 - "Batman Nights"

Back in the day, Six Flags Over Texas used to be where it was at. The Shockwave. Splash Water Falls. The Texas Giant. It's been a long time since I've been there, and my enthusiasm for roller coasters has increasingly diminished with age. The old man just ain't as limber as he used to be, or as tolerant of teenagers. But if I could go back in time to 1992, I'd probably check out Batman Nights again, especially if it was $10 off admission with a Dr. Pepper can.

Scott's Year in Shirts #143 - "Small and Creepy Films"

So this weekend I was up in Ventura helping my buddy Micah shoot his short film (which looks like its going to be awesome). Ran some slate, took some stills, slept on some wicker and said "quiet on the set a few times," and in return I was given this way cool Small and Creepy Films t-shirt. It's a comfortable shirt to wear when watching some films that make you feel a little uncomfortable.

Scott's Year in Shirts #142 - "War is Over (if you want it)"

Today's shirt is a special treat. It doesn't actually belong to me but it happens to be hanging on a wall in the house I'm staying in this weekend in Ventura. The shirt is a Vietnam War-era John and Yoko shirt in pristine condtion, and damn do I wish I could take it out if it's acrylic frame and wear it. It's so fucking cool.

Scott's Year in Shirts #141 - "Brian McKnight (he really loves L.A.)"

"Rollin' down PCH with a smile up on my face. The weather's always fine, the sun is always shining. Right here is where you'll find any and everything that you like. If it's work or if it's play, all I'm tryin' to say is... I love (L.A.) I love (L.A.) There's no place that I'd rather be (than right here). I live (in L.A.) I never wanna leave (L.A.). Everywhere I go, everybody knows (I love L.A.)."

Scott's Year in Shirts #140 - "World's Greatest Baseball Player"

I don't think there's any doubt that the statement I'm attempting to make on this t-shirt from 1974 could easily be disputed. There's a very small, passing chance that I may not be the world's greatest baseball player. But possession is 9/10's of the law, and you're lookin' at the dude who owns the shirt. But it did get me to thinking, in 1974, who was the world's greatest baseball player? Johnny Bench? Mike Schmidt? Feel free to discuss or remain silent.

Scott's Year in Shirts #139 - "Born To Be Wild, Greece"

This shirt contains two of my favorite things, a Steppenwolf reference and a stick figure. This souvenir shirt gives us some insight on what the people of Greece think about Americans. We like 60's rock music, wearing bandanas, and we're obsessed with being thin. So come to Greece, skinny Americans, where they've got Steppenwolf cassettes and red bandanas waiting for you in a gift bag.

Scott's Year In Shirts #138 - "Valley Of The Wind"

If this shirt is to be taken literally, the residents of Simi Valley consist of a smiley-faced sun, a stereotypical Indian and a big giant cloud that spends all day blowing everyone. It's no wonder then that this mecca of wind, insensitivity and overpriced houses sits just northwest of the San Fernando Valley, which is world famous for a slightly different type of blowing.

Scott's Year in Shirts #137 - "The Stress Is Getting To Me"

This is a good Monday shirt, especially if your Monday consists of continued car repairs necessary to get your vehicle to pass the insanely annoying California Smog Test. You know, for a state that's working so hard to fleece me out of my hard-earned bucks in the interest of reducing smog, there sure is a shit-ton of smog in the air. Not to complain, but in the past two weeks I've spent an amount more than half of what my truck is even worth just to register the damn thing. It could be worse, I suppose. I could go blind, or be Hispanic in Arizona. It's all about perspective.

Scott's Year in Shirts #136 - "Lacoste NY Tennis"

This is the kind of look I like to go for when I play tennis (which I never do) or golf (which I often do.) It's also good for eating tacos down at Papas & Tacos on Vineland and Oxnard. And yes, these are the same shorts I wore yesterday. Thank you for noticing.

Scott's Year in Shirts #135 - "Krav Maga"

Krav Maga is an eclectic hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel which involves wrestling, grappling and striking techniques, mostly known for its extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks, as it is also taught to elite special forces around the world. It would likely come in handy if you find yourself confronted in a Togo's bathroom, but unfortunately for me, I don't have the training, just the shirt.

Scott's Year in Shirts #134 - "Corsicana Public Library"

The Corsicana Public Library, keeping the residents of Corsicana interested in literacy since the beginning of time, or at least 1982. And God bless 'em, cause without the ability to read, I would have no idea that Wendy's offers new "spicy" chicken nuggets or that they are open until 1 a.m. For the record, I don't recommend hanging out in Van Nuys that late, no matter how much you want a Frosty.

Scott's Year in Shirts #133 - "UPS"

Back in the early 90's, the UPS slogan was "Service: The Right Package, The Right Trailer, The Promise We Live By." That slogan later changed to the just plain stupid "What can brown do for you?" and then the bold "Delivering The World... on time." Those slogans have all been cast aside for their current one, "We Suck at Delivering Your Packages... and that's a promise!"

Scott's Year in Shirts #132 - "I Don't Do ADR"

ADR. That's "additional dialogue recording" for those of you not in the biz. And for the record, no, I won't do it. Mainly because no one has ever asked me to. Here we are in North Hollywood outside of my favorite "assage" parlor. I always like to bring a fountain drink with me in case I get thirsty.

Scott's Year in Shirts #131 - "Coldwater Canyon"

So here I am at Runyon Canyon gettin' my exercise on and looking quite squinty-eyed in the process. That's Hollywood down there behind me. The cool thing about wearing this shirt in L.A. is that at various points in the day, it's correct.

Scott's Year in Shirts #130 - "Canada"

This shirt makes me think of those commercials that ran during the olympics where the likes of Kim Cattrall, Steve Nash and Michael J. Fox extolled the visual wonders that await you in Canada though it was very clear that they themselves were standing in front of a green screen. Look, I understand the importance of tourism. I'm all for it. But if Ryan Reynolds can't go to Canada to shoot a commercial for Canada, then you're not selling me on it. You go to Canada, I'll go to Big Lots.

Scott's Year in Shirts #129 - "Let It Be"

Today in Beatles history: 1962 - George Martin and Brian Epstein meet at Abbey Road. 1966 - "For No One" is recorded in Studio 2 at Abbey Road. Today in Scott's history: 2010 - Woke up at 10, Jack In The Box for breakfast, a little eBay action in the afternoon, followed by band practice and some grocery shopping with the wife.

Scott's Year in Shirts #128 - "Monarch Summer Camps"

The L.A. Valley College Monarch Summer Camp, where white kids, black kids and red-headed kids can all get along. This has nothing to do with Joe Montana or Skechers, but damn, look how short he is!

Scott's Year in Shirts #127 - "I Love Didi"

Someone used to love someone named Didi so much so that someone created a hastily thrown-together and poorly design shirt to express this love. Considering this shirt ended up at a Salvation Army store in Van Nuys, CA, one can only assume that "someone" and "Didi" are no more. Your loss is my gain, someone.

Scott's Year in Shirts #126 - "Duffy's Tavern"

I've never heard of Duffy's Tavern before, but their shirt features Jesus and an 18-wheeler, and that's good enough for me. Those dudes behind me are available for rental according to the sign in the window.

Scott's Year In Shirts #125 - "Henry's Tacos"

In honor of Cinco de Mayo I thought I would wear a shirt from my third favorite taco joint in the valley, Henry's Tacos! Located on the corner of Moorpark and Tujunga, it's just a stone's throw from Vitello's where Robert Blake shot his wife back in the day. Henry's has mighty tasty, slightly overpriced tacos and they also make a pretty good taco burger. Cash only (it is a stand, after all) and closed on Sunday! For the record, my favorite taco joint in the valley is La Fogata.

Scott's Year in Shirts #124 - "John Vanderslice - Pixel Revolt"

John Vanderslice, composer, uber producer and all around awesome dude. Big fan of the man's music, especially "Time Travel Is Lonely," "Cellar Door" and "Pixel Revolt." Haven't quite wrapped my brain around the newest record yet. Looking back, I wish I had brushed the Nilla Wafer crumbs off of the shirt before I took the photo. I certainly meant no disrespect to Vanderslice.

Scott's Year in Shirts #123 - "A Nightmare on Elm Street"

I was going to wear this shirt on Friday, but it just fell through the cracks. No literally, there's a crack between my dresser and the wall and I have so many shirts stacked up that this one took a tumble off the side. I'm not sure how old this is or which version of Freddy is featured on the shirt, but at least he has clear facial features like a nose and ears, unlike the current version.

Scott's Year in Shirts #122 - "The Swell Season"

The Swell Season is the band with the Irish dude from that movie who meets that Czech chick and then they make music and fall in love but don't end up together because she's married or something. The movie was made for like $5 and was a big indie hit. The band is pretty good too. I saw 'em at that venue in Hollywood where they have a big bowl and like 20,000 seats. Whatever that place is called. Yeah.

Scott's Year in Shirts #121 - "Griffith Observatory"

I've been in L.A. for over 4 years now and it took me until tonight to finally go and check out the Griffith Observatory. Carol and I had a nice dinner with some friends at Ca Del Sol and then decided to check out the night views of the city from the observatory. I was really blown away at how beautiful the city looks from so high up. Being sort of drunk helped, I think.
